"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?" - James 2:14
Saving faith is not a formula. It is not the shallow cry of "Lord, Lord!" Genuine faith is a revolution of the soul—grieving over sin, turning from wickedness, and surrendering every area of life to Christ.
If someone claims, "The blood of Jesus covers my sins," yet continues shamelessly in sin, he has not repented. He is not born again. He is not saved.
Faith Without Works Is Dead
Many in our day have been deceived by a half-gospel. They have heard, "Simply confess Jesus with your lips, and you will be saved." This diluted message has lulled millions into deadly self-deception.
One day, burdened by this reality, I fell on my knees and cried out: "Lord, so many pastors are teaching that if people simply repeat a 'sinner's prayer,' they are saved. Is this truly Your truth?"
After a long silence, the Spirit answered with words that pierced my soul:
"No. They must truly repent."
Faith and works are not two—they are one. A faith of mere words is dead, but living faith is always proven by works.
If you see a brother in need and say, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but give nothing for his hunger, what good are your words? In the same way, a confession of Christ without obedience is empty self-deception.
Repentance Proven by Fruit
John Newton, once a slave trader who built his fortune on human misery, encountered Christ and his life was utterly transformed. He never minimized his past; instead, he devoted the rest of his life to abolishing slavery and penned the immortal hymn "Amazing Grace."
That is authentic repentance—it does not end in confession but proves itself in the fruit of a transformed life.
By contrast, consider a man who claimed to have turned to Christ, entered ministry, yet was later arrested for burglary, fraud, and violence. His life exposed what his lips had concealed: he had never truly repented.
Should we only condemn such a man? Or should we also ask whether he was a victim of a modern church that has preached "salvation without repentance"—a cheap gospel stripped of power?
Whose Servant Are You?
Confessing Jesus as Lord is not the end. The question that reveals your true allegiance is this:
"Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?" - Romans 6:16
Obedience proves ownership. So, whose servant are you today? Do you still yield to sin, or do you submit to the Word of God?
You cannot serve both Christ and Satan. The choice must be decisive.
