Revelation Series #16: Heaven's Warning Signal

"The seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound." - Revelation 8:6

A trumpet is not the sound you make when everything is fine.

A trumpet is what you hear when someone is trying to wake you before it is too late.

That is why Revelation 8 and 9 must not be read like a shelf of strange symbols for curious Christians to admire from a distance.

These chapters are alarms.

They are loud because our hearts are dull.

They are severe because sin is severe.

And yet beneath the fire, smoke, darkness, and bitterness, there is something many readers miss the first time through.

The trumpets are not only about judgment.

They are about mercy refusing to stay silent.

If God meant only to destroy, He would not warn.

If God meant only to finish history, He would not interrupt it again and again with signs that say, "Turn back now."

This is where the chapter becomes painfully personal.

Many of us do not drift from God in dramatic rebellion. We drift through numbness. We adjust to compromise. We postpone repentance. We learn how to live in spiritual drowsiness while still saying religious words.

Then God sounds a trumpet.

He shakes what looked stable. He disturbs what looked normal. He allows bitter consequences to break into places where we had grown too comfortable.

Revelation teaches us not to waste those moments.
